The Port Deposit Chamber of Commerce is hosting the "Snakehead Showdown" fishing tournament this weekend to combat the invasive snakehead population in the Susquehanna River. This unique event invites anglers to help protect the local ecosystem by targeting these voracious predators.

Date: Saturday, September 28th
Time:
- Registration: 5 a.m. at Marina Park
- Tournament Start: 7 a.m.
- Weigh-in: 3 p.m. at Lee's Landing Dock Bar
Entry Fee: $100 per boat / $50 per kayak
Prizes: Cash prizes will be awarded

Snakeheads: A Menace to Native Species

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is actively encouraging anglers to catch and not release snakeheads. These invasive fish, native to Asia, pose a significant threat to the Susquehanna River's ecosystem. They are known for their aggressive feeding habits, outcompeting and preying on native fish species.

Bowfishing Edition for the Night Owls

For those seeking an extra challenge, a "Snakehead Showdown: Bowfishing Edition" will be held on Friday night, September 27th.
