The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife is inviting all Ohioans to celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day on Saturday, September 28th. With the opening of various hunting seasons and abundant fishing opportunities, this is the perfect time to connect with nature and enjoy the state's rich outdoor heritage.
Hunting Season Kicks Off
- Archery Season for White-Tailed Deer: The highly anticipated archery season for white-tailed deer begins statewide on September 28th, offering hunters a chance to pursue these majestic animals.
- Youth and Military Waterfowl Hunting Weekend: Young hunters and military personnel can enjoy a special waterfowl hunting weekend.

Other Open Seasons: Hunting seasons for squirrels and doves are already underway, while the fall wild turkey hunting season opens in 70 counties on October 1st.
Local Festivities
The Heart of Ohio Fish and Game Association is hosting a free event on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, featuring:
- Fishing instruction
- Archery range
- Kayaking
- Trapshooting
- Fishing derby
- Fur and trapping displays
- Habitat information
- Hot dogs and refreshments
Fall Fishing Opportunities
Fall is a prime time for fishing in Ohio.
- Lake Erie: Walleye and yellow perch fishing are excellent.

Honoring the Tradition
Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted have signed a proclamation recognizing the importance of hunting and fishing in Ohio. These activities not only provide recreation but also contribute significantly to wildlife conservation through license sales and excise taxes.
